When mastering a track for commercial release it is advisable to seek the help of a qualified professional. Unfortunately with the money involved in hiring a mastering engineer that isn't always possible.

What I will run through, is the basics of mastering a song within Logic Pro X and I will use a song that I have been involved with in the past, and always believed lacked power in it's final mix. • Next thing is to bring up the multi meter by navigating from the audio FX tab to metering and then to multimeter.

    The navigation process

Multimeter is a plugin available for us to use to measure the track across the stereo specter. How to capture video in kmplayer. It is important to keep referring to this throughout the mastering process, as we have spent a lot of time mixing the track previously, and we want to keep its basis alive while we master the track.

  • Exciter. What we will use next to help add a boost to the track is Logic Pro's exciter plugin. It adds higher artificial frequencies which adds crispness to the overall track. To use exciter you should increase and decrease the frequencies bar to suit the track. Mastering is very much about personal taste and it may be the case that this is not essential for your track, but was a technique I felt helped the overall sound of this track.
  • EQ. We aren't using your bog standard EQ, no we want to use the Linear phase EQ. The reason we have chosen to use this over the channel EQ is as follows, the channel EQ skews particular frequencies while we EQ them. By using the linear EQ we also save the basis of our mix. Using the multimeter we can see which areas of our track need boosted, and for this track I was able to see a lack of power in the middle section which is the part I decided to boost.

Stereo Spread. What happens with the plugin is that it takes the entire mix and splits it into various frequencies and forces them into stereo, this helps add width to the track. The settings below apply to the track I'm working on, and that for your own track it will most likely have entirely different intensity levels, it's just a case of personal preference.

Double down poker meaning. The multipressor is a compression tool that allows us to slice the track into certain frequencies, and allows us to independantly compress each portion. The multipressor also allows us to automate volume consistently throughout the piece, by increasing and decreasing volume at quiet and loud parts in that respective order.

Multipressor

When using the multipressor it is important to understand the basics of compression, and that compression is used simply to make loud things quieter and quiet things louder. With this plugin we can change the gain level, by increasing or decreasing gain change which appears at the top of the multipressor screen. The compression ratios can be set by increasing the arrow connected to the IO level.

The Limiter – This is the final plugin we will use in our mastering process the limiter works by raising the apparent level of the song by controlling the musical peaks which occur within the track. The way I use the limiter, is that at the end of the whole mastering process I will turn the limiters gain up full and work back to a point where distortion is no longer present.

This is an explanation of my attempt at mastering, I am by no means saying its the best way and there are a few things within my track I would like to touch up some more.

It is sometimes good to point out that a mastering engineer can only work with what's been recorded and if the initial recording isn't any good then unfortunately the mastering will not improve this.

Personal Feelings

Overall I feel I have achieved some of what I set out to do which was to add more intensity and drive to the song, but in doing so have broken the golden rule of mastering ‘don't work on your own songs', as I will have a biased ear. There are small pockets of distortion in the track which maybe due to me heavily compressing the bottom end, or as a result of something that occurred in the recording process which is unchangeable at this stage. My main aim was to try to bring this track to a more industry standard I feel it isn't quite there but it isn't far away.

Below are examples of the track before I mastered it and afterwards.
